I’ve been adding more ribbon to the skirt so as to make it balance more with the extreme business of the appliqued hanging panels.

ANd this is what the inside looks like.

So why did I hand sew? I didn’t want to have to take the hanging panels off as they are just perfectly sewn down at the top under the two rows of ribbon. If I was to machine them I’d be either banging those about or have to take them off.

But the other reason is that hand sewing allows the two ribbons to appear to float over the fabric, creating shadows and depth of texture. It helps the green and purple to really pop over the gold.

I did machine sew all the ribbon on the pleated hem though. And that is partly the need to sew that quickly- the pleats are three times the full length so it was going to be bulky and time consuming to hand sew! The effect is now of a single fabric due to the machine stitches.

Now I can start pinning the extra appliques and jewels on the skirt 🙂

I love the effect of the pleated hem with all those stripes sewn to it and the criss-cross diamond shapes and tassels overlaid on top - it give such a nice dpeth and texture, which must be even better when it's worn and moving.

Thank you :) Yes the trellis pattern is loose so it tends to swing nicely :) Over time those tassels will be filled out a bit more and the hem may wind up tidied a little more. Probably attempt to use a gold thread in my machine :)

It's at the point the net foundation can be put back in and the bodice reshaped- it flares out a bit more than I'd like :)

I mean the small points 8 shapes and paisley, and tiny little fans. The circles are made by me, with braid and stones and appliques :)

Thank you :) I am so happy I hoarded so many sarees when I did :) The appliques are from two different sets with different methods of stabilising :)

The look of the ribbon on ribbon on fabric is really cool! All that depth. It looks amazing all together!

Thank you :) I hoarded most of the materials over a decade ago, since then better quality ribbons have finally become cost efficient so they may be replaced later. But I'll want to make a Carlotta style bodice before long if I want to wear this in 10 years XD
